Born at Cambridge, England, he came to Canada in 1881 and after 1902 he studied in Toronto under F. McGillivray Knowles and at Heatherley’s School of Art, London, and the London Art School. He painted portraits, landscapes and marinescapes in impressionistic and realistic styles. He visited St. Ives in 1912 and lived in Nova Scotia, 1925-34, returning to Toronto about 1935 where he lived until his death. E. F. B. Johnston described him as an artist with “matured conceptions”.
